If one has no access to a headspace gauge, is there another way to do it? Possibly using a round or dummy round?

Oh great. Ok, will do.
Just a follow up queston for me and anyone else with a new build, if I dont get it checked, what's the worst case scenario i'd be looking at? secondly, How often do rifles actually have improper headspacing.
Excessive headspace can cause split or ruptured casing or worse yet Kb.
99% of the time if using a new bolt and new barrel you won't have a problem. It's when one or both are highly worn were you might run into some problems. Bolts should be replaced when barrels are, it's a good idea to keep them as a pair. If you break a bolt, only the bolt need to be replaced. It's still a good idea to ensure that it doesn't close on a USGI Field or Colt Field II gauge.

Thanks GotM4! Huge help as usual. Everything in this build is new but will double check.
Headspace gages are readily available from Bushmaster (5.56 Field Gage) for 25.00 also Bill Ricca had(s) U.S MIL issue gages as well. I bought 3 of them and they are GTG.
