Installed the gas tube on to the gas block for the new barrel I'm putting on my AR. Was a bit more difficult than I thought to hold the tube, block and pin steady while I hammered that roll pin in. I'm sure there's a tool that makes it easier, but...it is what it is now, lol.

Roger at Forward Controls Design makes a jig. Honestly though, I like to stall the tube after ive installed the block on the barrel.

Managed to get out for a long overdue trip to the range today. Brought along two ARs wearing some new optics that needed zeroed. First optic is 2 moa TruGlo branded Holosun that's been assigned to a relatively new 10.5" AR pistol. I'd bought it about a month ago, and was so impressed with the look, features, and construction that I bought a second Holosun a couple weeks later. I love the ACSS reticle I have on a .308, so the second new Holosun is sporting that the same reticle. Primary Arms had a bundle deal going on for a 3x Magnifier and the ACSS Holosun; which seemed perfect for my favorite 16" carbine. So, that's two new optics, a magnifier, and a newish AR pistol. The pistol upper had already seen around 150 rounds, but the lower is brand new; due to an issue that needed to be corrected by the retailer.

After putting some rounds on them, I continue to be impressed with Holosun's offerings. Glass is clear. Both reticles are crisp. Awesome in the weight department. It was a lot of fun testing out the auto-wake feature; which worked perfectly. While I only fired a couple hundred rounds, both performed flawlessly. One of the mounts loosened up, but it was my fault for not torquing it down properly when deciding on the placement in relation to the magnifier.

The primary arms magnifier turned out to be a great compliment to the ACSS Holosun. The 3x really helps to squeeze out some much better precision in the intermediate range. Even close up its very useable. Like the optic, the glass is clear. It has good light transmission, and solid eye relief. Ironically, its mount loosened up as well. Again, user error when deciding upon its placement. After properly tightening each, neither came loose again. I'll end up using some blue Loctite once I'm satisfied with their location/orientation. Overall, the ACSS/magnifier combo is excellent. I'm really looking forward to testing out the BDC at some longer ranges.

The AR pistol is now approaching 500 rounds and has been an absolute blast. It was purchased for use as a plinking/range gun. For that reason, I spent next to nothing on it. So far, it's been flawlessly reliable. To be fair, the original lower had a defect with the reciever extension. However, it was identified prior to running any rounds and replaced by the mfg.

Others have discussed buying a cheap/inexpensive AR to see how well it'll hold up as the round count increases; and that's what I'm going to do with this particular AR. I plan to run it as long as I can without cleaning; only re-lubricating when it starts to get dry. At the point it loses reliability, and lube doesn't help. I'll clean it and then repeat the process. If perishable parts need replaced (springs, gas rings, etc) I'll change them out, make a note, and continue on. I'll start keeping a more detailed log, and will try to post updates after any major outing.

TL;DR - Zeroed two new optics. Magnifiers are pretty awesome. Started a reliability test on an inexpensive build.

Final mockup on my PDW-pistol build while awaiting budget to order barrel group, LAW sidefolder and BCG. Keep waffling between a FailZero EXO NiB or a Toolcraft Black Nitride from Monmouth.

Being on a limited budget and planning for "upgrade and hand-me-down" to other builds, while I'm trying to keep this a Duty Grade build I keep waffling between the lower cost "faster to Initial Operating Capability" option of a prebuilt Andro Corp barrel assembly, then gradually picking up the pieces to put an FSB on a Daniel Defense DD-9072 as budget allows, and once the parts for the DD are all in-hand have my smith swap the Andro barrel onto a new upper (presently building around an Aero, but when budget allows considering a V Seven for weight savings and HMD'ing the Aero), or continuing my present armory of 1911 straight to 16" 5.56 carbine with no in-between as I acquire parts. (Everything I've acquired as "interims" on this build I intended for a plinker later, so that should offset "Buy Once Cry Once.")

Similarly, debating about optics and looking for Duty Grade candidates that'll fit on a CASV with co-witness, take whatever beating living in a laptop-bag can give and still be compact. Starting to wonder if a pistol holo like an RMR or Burris Fastfire might work, or if I'm stuck with tube-types like ACO/PRO or the various Aimpoint Micros and similar.

I'd post a pic, but F---youbucket is getting douchey about using them as an image host for website/forum-post pics. If you can't do that what's the point of having a photo-hosting site anyway?

Yesterday I replaced the Vltor A5H0 in my precision AR with a A5H2 and doped the gun out to a shade under 500 yards with 55 grain ball for the heck of it. The 1-2 o'clock ejection that I had with the A5H0 was solved and now cases eject out to 3-3:30. The rifle is a helluva shooter, even with 55 gr ball I was laying the hate to a steel plate in the standing with the rifle resting on a barricade at 463 yards.

Replace parts, buy new parts, clean or modify existing parts let's here about it.

I'll start off with a couple of new goodies I ordered for the new BCM 16" I finished yesterday.

Picked up a EO Tech ESPS3-0 for $372 shipped and a G33 STS for $454 shipped, they should fit well on top of the BCM. Also ordered a BCM KAG Grip, it looks light and it was cheap so I thought I would try it out.

    Post pics if like.

Re-zeroed the 16" with the new direct thread dedicated can. Started stripping the paint of one of the SBR's. Ugh.
