    Someone school me on lights

I picked up a Surefire X300. It was going to be used for my pistol or SBR or both until I found another X300, or a dedicated rifle light. I recently found a deal on an M&P that comes with a TRL-1 (C4 LED) but I know nothing about these. I have read some threads on here and I know folks run them and the X300s with no issues. Should I stick with the TRL-1 or pick up another X300 to consolidate? I just figured two of the same lights would be better so that I had back-up parts, etc.

The X300 is more widely regarded than the Streamlight. Besides another X300, you might try picking up a gently used Surefire 600 Scout Light for more throw. That way you could switch between it and the X300 on your carbine depending on your need. I just picked up a nearly pristine 600a with KL4 LED lamp and click tailcap for $100 shipped.

I have looked at the 600s and the 300s, anything I should be aware of if shopping for those? Thanks!

Not really. The latest version of the Scout is the 600c. I think some of the Scouts were available with incandescent bulbs, but you really want the KL4 LED. You can also get a Larue QD for the Scouts that bolts on for like $79, which is a nice add on. The nice thing about the scout is that for as much light output as you get, it's only slightly heavier than the X300, and it's pretty compact.

Run the TLR-1 on the pistol and X300 on the rifle.

I don't care for TLR-1 on a rifle as it's typically too high for the front sight. You can still get a decent sight picture but the top of the light is visible and it bugs me...probably not an issue but I'm weird like that. If you're not running it at 12:00 then it's a non-issue.

I like the TLR-1 better for pistols anyways. I like the switch better. I don't care for the SF DG switches, either.

I have a TLR-1 and my partner has an x300. Both on Glock 22s. The x300 is smaller and a bit lighter. The TLR-1 fits better on these particular guns. The beam pattern is different and I believe the TLR-1 puts out a bit more light. At least a whiter light than the bluish color of the x300. I don't think the extra $100 is worth the Surefire but you wouldn't be disappointed with both.

I just picked up a scout off ebay for $125, near new condition.

You might try the TLR-1 on your pistol. It's a great light for the price.

That said, you'll never go wrong with Surefire.
