I know Seekins doesn't get much love on this forum. Seekins just released their .308. I'm getting one they are local for me.
Seekins is fully ambidextrous. 18" Mike rock barrel with intermediate gas system. I shot the 1st 2 prototypes back in May.

Count me in as yet another 308 AR wanter, yet not purchasing anything due to the confusion.
I want to suppress mine as well, which just adds to the difficulty of finding compatible parts. I guess I could always sell my kidney and buy a Noveske
Why do the loudest do the least?
Same boat, basically what I'm loitering around waiting to do. I'll probably be such a low round count user that I could run a 7" Ti can and get away with it.
I'm still mystified that both RRA and Wyndham seem to get their own custom models from MI on the SS-KM handguards. I guess there's a market, which means some of them are out there, but I can't really understand why folks are actively buying 308 AR's from companies that can't make 5.56 ones run (DPMS ones will run, just have higher lemon rates and lower MRBF, but they at least don't do embarrassingly stupid things like eat their own triggers, and be only compatible with themselves).

I pieced together a .308 gas gun and I'm really happy with the results. It was my first build. I wanted a rifle that could do a little bit of everything--fun on a bench, light enough to hunt a little-- the cliche RECCE. It's light, no issues through 300 rounds, and more accurate that I can shoot. I used some JP Rifles parts that might not be the norm around here.
JD Machine Upper/Lower Matched Set
Ranier Ultra Match 16" barrel
DPMS parts kit
ALG Trigger
Seekins adjustable gas block.
JP Rifles LMOS BCG
JP Silent Capture Spring (just wanted to see what it was all about)
Daniel Defense 12" Light Rail
For perspective, next to my .308 SPS Tac
First trip in the field with it. I took this standing from about 70 yards.

Nice piggy. I hope he was tasty.
Kev - my design parameters are a lot like yours. Something I can put a 1-8X optic on, or add an Aimpoint and slay swine with it.
I'm still debating the 16" versus 18" barrel. The Ultra Match looks quite desirable.
And a can is very high on the list as well.
Good rails are available. Look at the Centurion Arms rails in 308. Also, Daniel Defense makes a 308 rail. They have decided to discontinue it, but you can still buy it on their site I think. I would do the Mega arms receivers.

I was wondering about the Vltor A5 system on the AP M5 as well. Will the standard 7 position RE-A5 work?
The RE-A5 and RE10 are the same size, you just get one more position on the A5.
Justin
The VLTOR A5 system is NOT compatible with .308ARs!
That said, you can (and I recommend) using the A5 receiver extension for ease and cost of trying out different buffers, and reliability.
There are two main buffer systems for .308 AR's: AR-10 pattern and LR308 pattern.
The LR308 pattern uses the following parts:
-AR-15 carbine receiver extension
-LR308 carbine action spring
-LR308 short buffer
The AR-10 pattern uses these parts:
-AR-10 carbine receiver extension (same length as VLTOR A5)
-AR-10 action spring (rifle and carbine use the same spring)
-AR-15 H3 carbine buffer
The AR-10 pattern is superior IMO since AR-15 carbine buffers are much cheaper than LR308 short buffers and because it has the same length of travel as original design of the fixed stock (similar to how the A5 system works with an AR-15). Knight's has also said that they saw reliability benefits with the AR-10 pattern system over the LR308 one which is why they don't offer an LR308 buffer system anymore.
Some AR-10 pattern receiver extensions you can buy are: Armalite (6 position), VLTOR (6 and 7 position), PWS .308 Enhanced Buffer Tube (6 position), Knight's (10 position), LaRue (6 position), and POF (7 position). LMT also uses the AR-10 pattern on the MWS, but I haven't seen their receiver extension for sale separately.
