To the OP,
Thx for posting those pics......great performance from that cartridge. I got a 6.8 upper for my son to hunt hogs here in Ca [.223 is not legal] and it does a good job on them. I sure wish I would have seen your pics before I bought it though.

I had an 8" 6.8. It was a really nice rifle but it was pretty violent compared to 300blk. Not a problem, just something I noticed.

If I was buying a rifle strictly for hunting that was 14.5" to 16" and not 5.56, I'd likely pick up a 6.8. The 6.8 is flatter shooting at distance and performs very well. The 300blk will also perform very well, but trajectory is more of an issue.

Personally though, I really can't see taking a shot beyond 200 yards. At 200 yards, the drop is about 6" depending on the weather. Using a T1, this is within the size of the dot. Using mil dot, that's a .8 adjustment or holding at the top edge of the 1st dot.

Hunting is not the primary role of this rifle. I took a chance on the 300blk and initially wrote it off due to all the talk you hear on the forums and I figured it didn't offer much over 5.56. Well, the opportunity came up so I got it. The first thing I noticed was how little blast and concussion there was from a 9" barrel when compared to my 11.5" 5.56. Almost no blast and recoil was hardly anymore than 5.56, just slightly more push.

Then I started comparing ballistics. From a 9" 300, the Black Tip has an expansion threshold of over 300 yards. I didn't have to worry about new mags and could grab a spare bolt should I need a replacement (not really a big issue. Just convenient).

If I hunted faster moving game in more open areas where I might not have time to make adjustments or was using a red dot, the 6.8 might be my better choice. For the areas I hunt, anything in excess of 150 yards is very rare, plus we often hunt from a truck or Polaris type vehicle, so a smaller, more maneuverable rifle made the most sense for me.

I'm content with 5.56, 6.8, 308 or 300blk. I wish I would have kept my SCAR H and if I had the money, I'd have a 6.8 as well.

I was finally able to get your pics to load (our army-internet is finicky about photos) - Impressive performance. I've got a good supply of the black tips and it's good to know they perform as advertised.

I also picked up a few boxes of those Lehigh Defense controlled fracture subsonics (after selling a kidney in order to do so). Have you had the opportunity to experiment with them? I liked to looks of them in my water jug testing, but I have not seen any real-world data back to back it up. Generally I'm wary of terminal performance out of subs, but it looks like they might have bridged the gap.

The Black Tip is my first choice. I have a few rounds of pink tip and VMAX left, but I like black tip for hunting. I shot a jackrabbit from 120 yards with VMAX and just destroyed it. Is there an better way for me to post pics that you can view them? Direct link instead of posting them in the thread maybe?

I don't know enough about the subsonic ammo to say. I'll see what I can find on them and will post back later. I hope you found some good stuff. I've heard of a number of guys hunting with the subs you can normally find and as long as you make a good hit, the results are consistent and effective.

I have purchased a 9in AAC upper, sitting back home in Texas right now with all the other firearms related goodies I have ordere while away on vacation. I've also purchase a couple of cans, one for that AAC in particular, and SBR'd a few lowers. This will be my first 300blk and I'm picking up all the info and knowledge I can and putting it in my kitbag before I start shooting and reloadig this new cartridge.
