Colt LE6920 Date of Manufacture Question

I was just curious if there was any way to tell the date of manufacture of Colt LE6920's from the serial number? I did a search that said the date of manufacture is stamped on the barrel under the handguard, but I wanted to know what the date of manufacture is for my lower.

Also, when did the Colts get the "standard" pins? Thanks.

if you got the rifle NIB then it came in a plastic bag aka "birth bag"...the mfg date of the weapon is printed on that bag

as for the pins...they started in mid 2008 if I recall correctly

Wow, I never noticed that! According to the the stamp, it was made in June '09. And the bag must have been made in May '09, lol. Thanks!

Can someone confirm this? I have heard mid 2010 as well as mid 2008. I've been dumping on Colt for years because of the irregular pins and if they have changed... I want to stop telling folks to avoid buying a Colt because parts not interchanging. Is this true of both the LE line and the SP line if AR15s?

The entire semi only product line began going to small pins in mid 2008 and was fully switch over by mid 2009.

2008 is correct, 2010 is ridiculously incorrect. The earliest confirmed serial number 6920s with .154" pins that I'm aware of is the 48,xxx range which coincided with the release of the 6940. They were transitional, however as my fathers 6920 in the 51,xxx range has .170" pins.

What is the value in knowing this useless info? Do people buy their ARs birthday cakes or something?

And can't you just read the date stamp on the barrel of the Colt?
