Incorrectly Installed Geissele SSA Trigger: How Do I Fix It?

UPDATE: Got the problem fixed; turns out I had my hammer spring incorrectly aligned.

    Guys,

This is my first attempt at building an AR lower, or any sort of gunsmithing or digging into the internals of a firearm of any type.

I thought I followed the directions carefully with the Geissele SSA trigger (and watched the YouTube video from Bill Geissele), but for the ignorant and first timers like myself, the directions I've found don't go much further than "put the tigger assembly in, then put the hammer assembly in and make sure its springs rest on top of the trigger pin."

    Somehow, I've messed things up.

Seems the hammer isn't engaging with the disconnector, and I don't have any real travel in the trigger to speak of at all.

I'm really, really lost here guys. Do any of these photos show something obvious?

I think your hammer spring is backwards. The legs are on top as they should be, but the part you have against the mag well should be wrapped under the hammer...if that makes sense.

I concur, the middle/square part of the spring needs to be behind/under the hammer, to push it away from the floor of the FCG opening, towards the mag well.

Someone else's pic, illustrating it better.

It does look like the hammer spring is install incorrectly. The spring is supposed to wrap around the back of the hammer

When installed, the spring needs to contact that part of the hammer and the legs must rest on top of the pin. Don't forget to lube the FCG before installing!!

That sure looks like the problem, doesn't it? Thanks, fellas.

Been trying to work the hammer assembly (with spring mounted correctly) down to the aligning the hole, and this thing's a bear. You guys got any tips or tricks?

Yeah, get a third hand. It's a bitch to push the hammer into place with one hand, then push the pin through.

Make sure your safety is 'off,' otherwise it keeps the trigger from rotating enough to allow you to fit the hammer in all of the way. It gets close, but not quite 'there.'

As you know it takes a bit of grunt as well as finesse. I put mine in by looking at the hole line up oppisite the side I was putting the pin in from. Once started you will have to wiggle it a bit to slide it through. Once you've done it a few times it's a piece of cake.

    Appreciate the help, guys.

I took a look at Bill Geissele's video on YouTube again and paid attention to exactly how he finagled the hammer in and - wouldn't you know- it didn't take me more than a minute or two to get the pin started that time. Compared to most of my morning otherwise.

    Learn from the masters, right?

So, everything looks squared away and seems to be function testing alright. Got some weird travel of about 1/16-1/8" on myA2 stock along the buffer tube, but other than that, my first AR looks good to go.

Gonna take it out to sight in my scope tomorrow and, with luck, will have some good news to report!

    use a punch

from the opposite side, then you can use the punch to move the hammer at will to line up the hole-when you get the pin in except the last bit to line it up,you can push on the side of the hammer to line it up
