Though I'm on the music-listening (audiophile) side, I love me some tube amps. Feel free to PM so we don't thread drift any further. Really interested in any cool stuff you've done. [emoji106]

I think of a suppressor being very similar to a restrictive car / truck muffler regarding "backpressure".
funny you should mention that. I’m a bit of a motorcycle racing muffler nerd, and have done a lot of races that have db metering as part of tech inspection. I also had a tendency to want a quieter bike during long and tiring races, for a variety of reasons, including a competitive psychological advantage. There’s a huge amount of overlap in mufflers for engines and those for guns. As a general rule, less backpressure=louder, but it’s not always true. And reducing backpressure can have diminishing returns, much like going quieter can have.
I assume that car mufflers would be similar... someday I may wanna pick your brain for ideas on trying to "whisper mode" a Firebird I'm penciling out. Could probably use active noise canceling, but more mechanical mitigation means less to cancel and less power drain off the alternator.
Hiram Percy Maxim invented both the firearm and car muffler.
They are in essence the same thing optimized for different use cases.
Maxim still exists, but they focus on industrial mufflers.

I have often wondered if anybody could make a Flow silencer for street racing applications.

Flowmaster is analogous to a Velos or Flow. Gas is directed off the bore axis. The analogue for an overbore silencer is a glasspack, such as most aftermarket universal application mufflers, most aftermarket streetbike/import/diesel mufflers, and most closed-course only racebikes from the factory. Gas goes through the center, but is affected by the periphery.
It’s not a perfect analogy, and some use a combination of features, which tends to be better than the extremes, in my opinion.
