FN High Power (thus far)

This handgun has been on the market for a couple years now, and the comments so far have been generally favorable. Anyone with any positive/negative experiences?

You mean the Springfield Armory version?

I assume he means the new FN version, given the title. I have no experience with that pistol.

Me either, I have enough original FNs I'm not terribly interested in their update. Opinions seem to fall in two camps, FN fan boys who love them no matter what and FN purists who hate them no matter what.

I don't think the new FN is practical enough as a carry gun to provide a lot of independent opinions.

Yes the FN High Power (by FN). Compared to the original design, it's a somewhat bigger and heavier gun - which is probably a strike against it. It does solve the hammer bite issue for many people though. Another negative is the $1200-ish price tag.

I guess that I'll have to get one to round out my HiPower collection, but they're out of the stainless steel version everywhere. :(

I do wish they had just done the original design, larger beaver tail to solve bite, ambi safety and done.

Nice looking pistol but it would look better in a brighter blue. I’ve only got two BHP’s (one still NIB) and the bluing looks so much better than that shown in the link.

Assume this version has a Firing Pin Safety, like mk lll guns?

According to the manual:

"The FN High Power is equipped with two passive safety systems incorporated into the firing mechanism: a firing pin block and trigger disconnect to prevent the pistol from firing unless the trigger is pulled, and the slide and barrel are in the locked position. The firing pin block prevents the tip of the firing pin from protruding from the breach face unless the trigger has been pulled to the rear."

Extraction problems seem to be a common complaint with Springfield's SA-35 version. Don't know if that's been completely addressed by now?
